Amla

$17.75 ($14.90-$79.00 choose a size)

The Amla or Indian Gooseberry is a small leafy tree that grows throughout India and bears an edible fruit. Amla oil is extracted from its seeds and pulp. The amla fruit is often referred to as the "Indian Gooseberry" because of its edible, very tart taste. The pectin content makes it ideal for jam and chutneys. The tree begins to yield fruit from the third year onwards and the productivity levels are good. Amla oil is prepared from dried amla berries, which have been soaked in coconut oil for several days. This oil is one of the world's oldest natural hair conditioners. These trees are semi deciduous in the winter and spring, and may lose some leaves in transport as a stress response. This is quite normal and the plant will recover well.

MOUNT COTTON, QLD

Pitomba

A great addition to my eugenia collection. I've only had it in the ground for about 6 weeks - new growth everywhere. Is very happy in the SEQ climate. It's in a semi shaded spot with grass clippings around the outside and I give it some water everyday. I think this little tree is going to be a winner. Can't wait to try the the fruit.

Pitomba

Grew slowly till put into a self watering pot then looks changed totally from a slow stragly shrub to dark green leaves that shoot all the time and also produced flowers and first fruit which was delicious, tasted like a very aromatic dried apricot.

Pitomba

Pitomba has fruited for the first time after planting 3 years ago. Now about 1.6 metres tall - fruit is small but very sweet to eat straight from tree. Birds love them too so I will have to net next crop.
